Background: The pilot was trialled in eight schools around the country during the 2013/2014 academic year. During this time the Taste Council engaged with all stakeholders – teachers, students, NCCA, food producers, culinary professionals, educators and members to evaluate the unit content ensuring it both was relevant and fit for purpose. This evaluation ensured the Taste Council provided a unit worthy of inclusion on transition year curriculum and the unit is now available for all transition year students.

Teachers: Teachers can access the unit from the NCCA website Transition Year section. In addition to the unit the Taste Council has developed a full set of resources to aid the learning process. Teachers can access all lesson plans and on-line resources which will support them when delivering the unit. Students also have a learning tool-kit which should enhance their learning experience.
Transition Year Teachers please register here with Bord Bia if you will be offering the unit during the next academic year.

Food Producers / Professionals / Chefs: An extremely important part of this programme is the opportunity for students to interact with artisan food producers and chefs. This experience should not only inspire the students but also provides real life experiences.

If you are a chef or artisan food producer or food professional and would like to give a little of your time to Ireland’s next generation please register here.

If you would like to know more about the unit you are welcome to download all the material developed here.
